As many are heading into the wilderness to hunt this season, Astia Health would like to emphasize the importance of staying safe. One careless action by a hunter can lead to a serious injury or worse, therefore it is imperative to use extreme caution while out in the woods. Being careful and alert at all times while stalking that trophy buck will result in a safe and enjoyable season.
Use your firearm safely. Familiarize yourself with your firearm before heading into the woods. Always handle it as if it is loaded, and keep it pointed in a safe direction. Keep your firearm’s safety on until you are ready to shoot. Do not touch the trigger until you are ready to fire, and be aware of what is beyond your intended target.
Let someone know where you are. If something happens to you, your family and friends need to know where to look for you. Provide them with a detailed description of your location.
Dress in blaze orange (or pink) so that you are visible to other hunters.
Stay warm. Wear a hat and gloves, dress in layers, wear insulated boots, and use hand warmers.
Always use a secure safety harness while in a tree stand, and do not attempt to carry anything in your hands while climbing into your tree stand. Use a rope to pull up your unloaded firearm.
